"Slang coined in the 1920s. Stories in circulation about the phrase's origin include: "b's and e's", short for "be-alls and end-alls"; and a corruption of "business". Noun 1. (idiomatic) Something excellent, outstanding. Synonyms- cat’s meow, cat’s pajamas, cat’s whiskers."
Now to the actual post (if anyone is still reading this at all).
Yesterday was an eventful day, which started out bright and early at 4:00am. Actually, it was not bright out. Anyone who gets up at four knows that it is pitch black. This is nature's way of saying "Get back in bed!!!" Regardless of the obvious signs that I should be in bed, I was up with my friends Chelsea and Mel, driving to Mapleton, UT. Chelsea had talked me into running the Hobble Creek Half Marathon with her after Mel had talked Chelsea into participating.
We actually had a great time. Obviously it was very hard running 13.1 miles after minimal training, but I thoroughly enjoyed the first ten miles. We had some deep discussions (like the one around mile four about Breaking Dawn and its flaws) and tons of laughs. In fact, we even entertained other people. At the fourth water station Mel and I were starting to feel a little hot, so we grabbed two waters, one to drink and one to pour on our heads. As we each poured the cool liquid down onto our hot, tired bodies, one of the volunteers yelled "Sports drink!" Oops. Apparently the first three water stations serve water only, the fourth serves sports drink first and then water. We were soaked, sticky and sweet smelling. Sort of.
Miles eleven, twelve and thirteen were not that great, but at least I kept running. During one particularly uncomfortable hill, someone had written a motivating message on the ground in chalk: "It's EASIER than child birth." This is actually a lie. Child birth was much much easier than this. I loved child birth. I had a fabulous epidural and got the best nap ever.
Back to the race, we sucked it up and finished just over our goal time of 2:00. I am very happy with our time! Later that day I was not as happy when my knees started aching for the first time ever. I have never had the dreaded "knee problems" during any of my long runs, so I am surprised that they hurt so badly after this race. Hopefully this is a one time thing and future runs will be ok.
Thanks to Chelsea and Mel for talking me into this. You girls were awesome to train and run with! Now we can say "We ran a Half Marathon!" (Also, we discovered that if you cough when you say "half marathon" you can trick people into thinking you ran a marathon.) Thanks girls. I think you are "the bee's knees."
Now to the Bees part of this post. Last night after running, working and taking a quick nap, we headed to see the Salt Lake Bees play the Tuscon Sidewinders. Going to a baseball game, even if it's not at Yankee Stadium, is one of our favorite summer activities. Last night we relaxed and let the babies crawl around on the grass. Kipp even caught a home run ball! (Branden points out that he would have caught the ball if I hadn't sent him to buy hot dogs right before the ball came flying at us. He missed the whole thing!)
And for a final but unrelated picture, Marina has decided that she only likes to feed herself. She refuses to let me spoon feed her food, protesting by turning her head or swatting the spoon away. If I do ever get food into her mouth, she spits it out, squishes it in her hands and rubs it all over her face, body, hair etc. Isn't she lovely?

I am so glad the race went well. You don't even look like your had just run 13 miles in that picture. Quite impressive I must say. Congrats!
That is my goal to do that same half marathon next summer! I figure if I sign up and have something to work towards it will motivate me to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight and even less! Congrats! Thats a great time!
I am so impressed by you and Chelsea. You guys are amazing!
13 MILES FOR FUN??? REALLY?? I will stick to Lagoon!!
Wow, you are awesome. I don't think I could run a 5K without passing out on the ground somewhere in the middle. Oh, and PS...Asher went through that "Im a big kid and I'll feed myself" phase...it was messy, unproductive, and I'm sure not a very nutritious phase, but he survived. They do grow out of it...or rather, they just get really hungry.
You ran a (cought) marathon! You are freakin' awesome! Good job gal! You are an animal!
Branden-
Dude, the spudman bike route goes right by our house! So you went right by and you didn't even know it was us. We live on 600 South. That's funny. If I would have known i would have squirted you with a hose or something when you went by. haha
So about the mice. We have a solution. Peppermint oil. You can get at a health food store. Just dab a little bit on cottonballs and put them wherever. It's safe, doesn't smell bad and it works! We know from experience. Good luck! PEACE
Great job on the race! What an accomplishment. Love the picture of Marina feeding herself!
Hey Allens,
Kristi you don't know me, but I was good friends with Branden back in college. I randomly came across you blog. Tell him hello from Erin (Wilson) Kusch. by the way congrats on your half marathon!
I think the only reason I would ever begin running would be to wear short shorts again :)! You look too cute for getting ready to run! I'm impressed once again with your athletic abilities! Good job woman!
Good job on the half marathon Kristi! I hear that half is a good one. Way to stay so active!! You are looking amazing bytheway....
Congratulations! What an accomplishment. Bytheway, where was Branden during the race?? In bed, huh? Let him know that I am deeply saddened for him because of the whole Yankee Stadium going down and all :(
Bry,
I wasn't in bed, I was a good husband and the one taking the pictures. I had to get up early for that. I'm also saddened because of the demolition of Yankee Stadium. Kristi and I went there this past week to pay our last respects, it was sad.
Kristi??? I found you because Miranda found me and now I have found all these Paris blogs and I am so freakin' excited! How are you? It is late and I should get sleep considering that my baby is asleep and I am totally lacking, but give me a visit and hopefully you're glad I found you!
Natalie! Your name doesn't link to any blogs. What is your blog address??? I would love to catch up. I was just reading my old Paris journal the other day and literally crying because I was laughing so hard. Remember your boyfriend Henri? :)
Hi Kristi,
Yeah we moved pretty quickly. The woman who bought our house wanted to move in soon. So we are now somewhere temporarily while we look for a house. We have a few offers in and because they are short sale are just waiting to hear if the bank accepted them. We're planning on staying in the same area. Email me or leave a comment on our blog with your email address so I can email you our new address. We would love to come to a Halloween party!
