Ok. So a house is not technically a baby, but I feel almost as impatient and expectant as I was when I was pregnant with Marina. (I said almost) This house has been a long time in the making. I first drew up the preliminary plans about two years ago. A few months later we took them to a professional drafter who created the blueprints. For my design, I took the "bones" of an existing McArthur Homes design and changed it to fit my own tastes. Basically the only things I left the same were most of the exterior walls and one of the interior bearing walls. Some of the things about our design that I love the most are; a two-story family room, a huge kitchen island, a deck off of our master bedroom and a true "princess suite" for Marina with vaulted ceilings, a wall of bookshelves and a cozy window seat.
Working at a fantastic Design Studio for McArthur Homes gave me a lot to think about for the interior finishes. I have been planning and rethinking this home ever since our last one was completed about 3-1/2 years ago. I really wanted to do something different than what most people choose at the Design Studio. I have never seen anyone do the combination of cabinets and flooring that I decided on, so hopefully my "creativity" doesn't backfire on me! Some of the things I chose are; walnut floors, glazed maple cabinetry with a dark stained island, solid surface countertops (easy to clean!), Moen Eva faucets, Mohawk SmartStrand carpet (almost unstainable), a cool precast concrete fireplace mantle and lots of white wood trim.
I probably think about the house way more than I should. Sometimes I sit straight up in the middle of the night and try to wake Branden up to talk about the backsplash tile or the lighting. He doesn't really appreciate this. I think we will both be a little more relaxed come September when we move into our new digs.
Maybe then we can start thinking about having an actual Baby #2...
